The conversion of a large, empty retail unit to one smaller retail unit and a public toilet block in a busy Shepherds Bush shopping centre. Works were carried out over five months from June 2007.

Contract value approx £400,000

The works began with the sub-division of the retail unit to form 1 smaller unit and an area for the public toilets. The stud and glass walls and services were installed to the new toilet block and the floor tiles were laid. The plumbing was completed and the wall lining systems, vanity units and the cubicles were finished. Towards the end of the project 3 large glass feature walls, to be illuminated from behind, were installed.

Blue LED’s were fitted to shine across the ceiling of the entrance of the toilets to enhance the area and make it stand out from the rest of the mall. Finally, the turnstiles were installed, and the project was complete.

All lights used on this project were low energy, and where needed, presence detection switches were used. The taps and flushing systems were all automated to increase energy efficiency.

The toilets devised by the Architect included 5 female cubicles, 3 male cubicles, 1 baby change and children’s WC, 1 disabled access WC, a store room and an attendant’s office.

Upon completion of the works, the client and centre management were left with a full Health and Safety file.
